Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 30, 2026
WhatIGrow (“we”, “us”, or “the app”) is an AI-powered plant care companion that helps you identify plants from photos, track their health and care over time, and receive personalized recommendations. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how it’s stored, and the choices you have. It applies to the WhatIGrow web app and any connected custom domain.
1. Information we collect
- Account information: your email address, name (if provided), and authentication data when you create an account or sign in with email, Google, Microsoft, Apple, or Facebook.
- Plant photos and records: images you upload of your plants, along with the care details you add (name, grow space, watering and fertilizer logs, notes, health-check photos).
- Environment data: optional local weather and sensor readings (e.g. temperature and humidity from connected Govee sensors using your personal API key) used to tailor care advice.
- Usage data: how you use the app’s features, which AI tools you run, and aggregated analytics that help us improve the service.
- Device and location data: approximate location (browser-based) when you opt into local weather, and standard technical data such as browser type and IP address.
2. Why we collect your data
- To provide the service: identifying plants, generating care guides, running health checks, and producing your personalized daily recommendations.
- To track your garden over time: storing your plants, photos, and care history so you can monitor progress and the AI can compare changes.
- To tailor advice to your conditions: using sensor and weather readings to adjust watering schedules and surface environment alerts.
- To operate your account and payments: managing login, subscription tier, and billing through our payment processor (Stripe).
- To improve and secure the app: monitoring usage, fixing issues, and preventing abuse.
We do not sell your personal data.
3. How data is stored and processed
Your data is stored securely on Base44, the platform that hosts WhatIGrow. Plant photos are sent to AI providers (such as Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, and others) only to perform the identification, health analysis, and recommendations you request. We retain your plant records and photos for as long as your account is active so you can access your garden’s history. Usage logs used for metering and improvement are retained in aggregated or pseudonymized form.
4. Third-party services
- Authentication: Google, Microsoft, Apple, and Facebook for sign-in (each receives only the data needed to verify your identity).
- AI providers: services that power identification, health analysis, and recommendations.
- Payments: Stripe processes subscription payments; card data is handled by Stripe, not stored by WhatIGrow.
- Sensors: optional Govee OpenAPI integration you connect with your own key.
Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy. Use the links below to review them when relevant to you.
5. Your rights and choices
- Access & export: view your plants, photos, and care history within the app at any time.
- Correction: edit your plant records, notes, and profile settings whenever you like.
- Deletion: delete individual plants (which removes their photos and history) or request full account deletion by contacting us.
- Sensor data: disconnect a sensor or remove your Govee API key at any time from the Sensors page.
- Marketing: toggle the daily Morning Update and other notifications in your settings.
To exercise any of these rights, email simplygoodappscanada@gmail.com. We respond within a reasonable timeframe.
6. How to delete your data
You can delete a plant at any time from its detail page; this removes that plant’s photos, health checks, care events, notes, and problems. For full account and data deletion, contact simplygoodappscanada@gmail.com and we will remove your account and associated data.
7. Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active so your garden history remains available to you. When you request deletion, we remove your records and associated photos within a reasonable period. Aggregated, de-identified usage data may be retained longer to improve the service.
8. Children’s privacy
WhatIGrow is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
